TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Mississippi Valley State University cross country program concluded its 2022 campaign on Monday morning at Apalachee Regional Park with four personal-records falling for each squad.
Â
Topping the Delta Devils for the first time this season was
Elijah Edney, who set a new PR in the 8K race with a time of 29:25.8 to cross the finish line first.
Â
The second and third-best finishers on the men's side did not set new fastest times but were some of the best runners of the day as
Gabriel Crawford (31:09.9) and
Jacob Bell (32:16.2) both had stellar showings.
Â
The trio of
Elijah Johnson (34:55.0),
Jordan Robinson (36:13.7), and
Stephen Banks (38:38.0) all created new benchmarks for themselves heading into next year's campaign.
Â
Toni Carter led the Devilettes in each of her three meets she participated in, ending the season on a high note with a personal-record of 24:07.5 in the 5K.
Â
A pair of freshmen in
Terreka Gibson (26:48.0) and
Zariyah Moss (26:50.1) placed behind one another, breaking each's PR in the 5K as well in the process of being the second and third-fastest women for Coach Banks' crew.
Â
The final PR of the morning came from
Shy'Kerria Curtis with a 33:39.3 mark.
Â
Now that the cross country season has ended, most if not all of the student-athletes will now turn its attention to the indoor track & field season which will start in January.
