BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball program was recognized with an individual accolade as
Zakiya Mahoney was selected by the conference office as the SWAC Women's Basketball Impact Player of the Week.

Mahoney, a graduate student from Oakland, California and former Chabot College transfer, averaged a stellar 15 points, 7.7 boards, 4.3 helpers, and 1.7 steals over three games last week against Lamar and Nicholls (twice).

The five-foot-nine guard set career-highs of ten field goals made and eight assists versus the Cardinals and Colonels, respectively, on top of season-highs for points (22), minutes played (32), and rebounds (10).

For the week, she totaled 45 points, 23 rebounds, 13 assists, and five steals while shooting 18-of-44 (40.9%).

Mahoney and the Devilettes will battle the 16th-ranked University of Utah on its home floor as part of the Pac-12 / SWAC Legacy Series on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in a monumental opportunity for the program.
