ITTA BENA, MS – Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball defeated Voorhees University in an exhibition matchup to open the 2023-24 season, winning 85-32 on Thursday night.
MVSU opened the game on a 12-0 run in the 1
st quarter where they outscored Voorhees 20-6 taking control of the game early. MVSU never trailed after being the first one on the scoreboard 18 seconds into the 1
st quarter.
The Devilettes led the way in every category and ended the game with 47 points off the bench compared to Voorhees' 10.
A huge performance by freshman guard
Leah Turner who led the way off the bench with a game high 18 points on 8-11 field goals. Turner played 21 minutes, shot 50% percent from 3-point range, and added three steals.
Junior guard Sh'Diamond Mcknight added 12 points and 7 assists, and senior guard
Gabrielle Bunch collected 7 points and 14 rebounds.
This MVSU win was a collected team effort.

The Devilettes will begin regular season play as they travel to Salt Lake City to face the University of Utah Monday November 6, 2023 at 6:00 PM.
