Itta Bena, Miss.— Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) announced today that Kendrick Wade will not return as head football coach for the Delta Devils. The decision comes after two seasons at the helm.
Interim Athletic Director George Ivory expressed appreciation for Coach Wade's contributions, saying, "We are grateful to Coach Wade for his service to the program and commitment to our student-athletes. His passion for football and leadership will leave a lasting impact, and we wish him success."
Kyle Williams has been named interim head coach to ensure a seamless transition. Williams joined the Delta Devils this year as Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach, bringing a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in developing top-performing defenses.
In 2023, Williams served as the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for Texas A&M-Commerce, where his defense earned national recognition in several categories. The team ranked second in interceptions, first in interception return yards, fourth in takeaways, and the top 20 for sacks.
Williams' previous experience includes overseeing defensive units ranked among the nation's best at the FCS and Division II levels. His teams have achieved impressive rankings in pass defense, takeaways, and scoring defense, while his coaching has produced numerous All-Conference and All-American players.
A native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Williams played collegiately at Kansas State, where he earned All-Big 12 honors as a safety and graduated with a degree in Social Science. His coaching career includes roles at USC, Evangel University, Sul Ross University, and UT Permian Basin, where he consistently elevated defensive performance and developed players to succeed professionally.
MVSU will immediately begin a national search for a permanent head football coach. The program continues its commitment to building a competitive football team that reflects the pride and tradition of the Delta Devils.
