BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball program received its second weekly award recipient of the 2025-26 campaign and once again it was Ariel Jefferson, capturing SWAC Newcomer of the Week for her showing on opening weekend.
Jefferson, a graduate student forward from Clarendon, Arkansas, logged season-highs for both minutes (37) and free throws made (5) as Valley won its first SWAC opener since 2019, knocking off Alabama A&M in overtime to beat the Bulldogs for the first time in nine years, halting a 16-game skid in the series.
The former Arkansas Baptist Buffalo topped the team in points (13.5 / 27), rebounds (9.0 / 18), field goals (4.5 / 9), three-point percentage (37.5% / 3-of-8), and triples (1.5 / 3) while also registering a block, steal, and assist apiece.
The Green and White will spend the weekend Deep In The Heart of Texas, first against Texas Southern at 6 p.m. on Thursday before ending at Prairie View A&M Saturday afternoon.
