BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball program deploys one of the most lethal scoring weapons in the country and the SWAC has been keen to this fact all season long as Michael James was tabbed Conference Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time in 2025-26.
James, a junior guard from Byhalia, Mississippi, averaged an even 30 points per game thanks in large part to making half of his 46 shots from the field (23-of-46) while leading the team in field goal percentage (50%), scoring, field goals (11.5 / 23), three-pointers (3.5 / 7), and steals (2.5 / 5) as well.
The Meridian Community College transfer set season-highs with 12 buckets (12-of-21, 57.1%) vs. Alcorn and four steals against Jackson State on top of adding nine rebounds plus a quarter of assists to the stat line over the weekend.
MVSU heads to Huntsville on Saturday at 4 p.m. to take on Alabama A&M for their next scheduled matchup.
