Murphy’s Career Outing Powers Devilettes To Senior Day Victory

ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball program has come away with back-to-back victories for the first time this season and to do it in their final two home games makes it extra sweet for the team's five seniors, taking down the Texas Southern Tigers, 78-64.

Devilettes' Top Performers:

  • Jaeda Murphy set a new career-high in both points (22) and free throws (9-for-10, 90%) while draining a season-best six field goals (6-for-11, 54.5%), all going alongside tying for the game's most assists (5).

  • Senior Janiya Jones had her best rebounding performance in Green and White as well, pulling in eight boards in addition to 13 points, cashing in both of her triple tries.

  • Sydnei Marshall was the one student-athlete not honored with personal benchmarks reached against TSU, and raising the bar in her rebounds (7), dimes (5), and buckets (5-of-11, 45.5%) as she scored 14 on top of being one of two players to snag multiple steals (2).

  • Senior Desiree Smith almost notched her first double-double since January 10, ending up a point short via ten rebounds plus nine points.

  • If Valley wants to finish strong heading into the SWAC Tournament for the second straight year, it will need to keep its momentum rolling on the road, starting on Monday at Grambling State (5:30 p.m.) in a makeup of the contest postponed due to the ice storm.
