MVSU women's basketball coach Kilbert headed to UAPB

ITTA BENA -- Nate Kilbert's 11-year run as the head women's basketball coach at Mississippi Valley State has come to an end.

Kilbert, who led the Devilettes to their first SWAC regular season title since 1988, was introduced Friday as head coach at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Kilbert, who was named the SWAC Coach of the Year, led the Devilettes to the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT), where they fell to Tulane in the first round. It marked the first time the Devilettes have played in a postseason game since 1993 when they won the SWAC Tournament.

The Sallis, Miss. native served as an assistant coach at Valley from 1989-91 before spending 10 years in the position at Alcorn State under head coach Shirley Walker.

Kilbert will officially take over his new post at UAPB on July 1, taking over for Cary Shelton who resigned on Mach 18.

A national search is underway to find his replacement.
