Box Score LAS VEGAS -- California State-Bakersfield overcame a first half deficit Sunday to defeat Missisisppi Valley State 69-64 here at Orleans Arena in the loser's bracket game of the 2012 Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic.
MVSU (0-9) led by as much as 11 points in the first half, but the Delta Devils were unable to hold on for its first victory of the season despite its second-highest offensive output of the year.
MVSU will travel to TCU on Dec. 30 in its final non-conference game of the season.
Davon Usher led MVSU with 26 points while Darryl Marshall had a career-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shots. Marshall made 3-of-6 three-pointers and also notched a career-high in steals (4). But the Delta Devils were unable to control the Roadrunners' starters, as they accounted for all but six points.
Stephon Carter led CSUB with 18 points.
MVSU cut the lead to 63-62 with 1:39 left in the game but a tip-in by Adam Young and four key free throws down the stretch proved to be all CSUB needed to get the victory.
Valley finished 22-of-37 from the free throw line (59.5 percent) and made 46.2 percent from the field. The Delta Devils made 6-of-12 three-pointers.
