ITTA BENA -- Chico Potts earned his first-ever victory Sunday as head coach Sunday as the Delta Devils defeated Alabama A&M 79-68 at the Harrison HPER Complex.
Darius Tomlin, a freshman from Jackson, Tenn, torched the visting Bulldogs with a career-high 21 points and Davon Usher paced the Delta Devils with 27 points and nine rebounds as MVSU (1-11, 1-1 SWAC) earned its first win of the season.
Tomlin's mid-range jumper was falling all night as the freshman guard made 8-of-13 shots and finished 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Usher, who has scored in double-figures in all but two games this season, finished 7-of-13 and was perfect at the charity stripe (10-of-10).
Cameron Dobbs chipped in 11 points off the bench for the Delta Devils, who shot 44.3 percent on the night.
MVSU's 79 points was a season high.
Jeremy Crutcher and Demarquelle Tabb led the Bulldogs (5-8, 1-1 SWAC) with 16 points each while Brandon Ellis chipped in 13.
The Delta Devils forced the Bulldogs to commit 21 turnovers and MVSU outscored A&M 26-14 in the paint.
Valley will be at home Tuesday at 7:30 against Alabama State.
