MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Phillip Crawford scored 29 points, including 20 in the first half, and pulled down 17 rebounds to rally Alabama State to a 73-65 victory over Mississippi Valley State.
Crawford made 12 of 17 shots and added five blocks as he dominated the Delta Devils (3-18, 3-8 SWAC) in their fourth straight road game.
Davon Usher led MVSU with 19 points off the bench as he recorded his fourth straight game in double-figures. The junior guard has scored in double-digits in 18 of 21 games this season.
MVSU, who trailed the entire first half, took its first led of the game with 6:49 left when Usher nailed a 3-pointer. He gave the Delta Devils the lead again with 6 minutes remaining when he made another 3 to tie the game at 59.
But the Hornets (8-16, 5-6 SWAC) went on a 9-2 run over the next three minutes.
Ervin Thomas put up his first-ever double-double for Valley with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes of action. Cordarius Samples added eight points.
The Delta Devils will be at home Saturday at 5 p.m. gainst Alcorn State. Fans are asked to wear green to the game.
