MVSU tops JSU on Washington's buzzer-beater

Box Score
Interview with MVSU head coach Chico Potts

GREENWOOD, Miss. -- It was a game for the ages.
Mississippi Valley State found itself down 65-61 to Jackson State on Saturday before a stunning comeback that sent MVSU fans running onto the court.
Greenwood native Jeffrey Simmons made a 3-pointer to cut JSU's lead to 66-64 with 16 seconds.  Then, JSU turned the ball over which led to D'Angelo Priar's layup that tied the game at 66.
Then, as time expired MVSU's Jordan Washington drained a 3-pointer to seal a 69-66 win for the Delta Devils (6-13, 3-5 SWAC).

"I was looking at the ball and it looked like it was moving the slow motion," said MVSU head coach Chico Potts. "It hit the backboard....and it was good."

MVSU has now won three of its last four games, including its last two.

"We have two wins in our last two games," said Potts. "I hope it's the start of something special."

MVSU upped its rival in front of a capacity crowd of 3,402.

"You couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere than what we had tonight."
Simmons led Valley with 18 points for MVSU off the bench while James Currington had nine points and five rebounds.

The Delta Devils shot 43.4 percent beat JSU in the rebounding category 39 to 28.

MVSU will be back in action Monday at 7:30 p.m. when they host Grambling State at the Leflore County Civic Center.
