Bulldogs overcome Delta Devils in foul-ridden showdown

GREENWOOD, Miss. -- It took nearly three hours and 105 free throws Monday night to decide the winner between Mississippi Valley State and Alabama A&M. 
The Bulldogs (9-12, 6-5 SWAC) converted 32-of-49 free throw attempts, including some key ones down the stretch, to defeat the Delta Devils, 91-82, at the Leflore County Civic Center. 
MVSU, meanwhile, made 36 of its 56 free throw attempts as it dropped its second consecutive game. 
Six Alabama A&M players fouled out in the game. ?

After leading 37-30 at halftime, the Bulldogs extended its lead to 17 points with 13 minutes left in the game. MVSU cut the lead to five points, 85-80, with 44 seconds on the clock. But the Bulldogs made its next four free throw attempts and extended the lead to nine with just 29 seconds left to capture the win. 
DeAngelo Priar and Jeffrey Simmons led Valley with 13 points apiece. The Delta Devils shot 38.2 percent from the field. 
Nicolas West posted a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. 
MVSU will be host Alcorn State on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Washington County Convention Center in Greenville.
