Box Score JACKSON, Miss. -- James Currington has been one of the most consistent players on the Mississippi Valley State team this season.Â
And it was no different Saturday.Â
The freshman standout led the Delta Devils with 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 82-64 loss to rival Jackson State at the Lee E. Williams AAC.Â
It marked Currington's fourth double-double of the season and second against a conference opponent. Meanwhile, Cameron Dobbs was two points shy of tying his season-high with 13 points off the bench for the Delta Devils.Â
Valley started off hot, going on an 8-0 run thanks to a pair of 3's by Anthony McDonald and DeAngelo Priar. But the Tigers used a dominating inside presence -- led by Brandon West (18 points) -- to overpower the Delta Devils in the second meeting between the teams this season. Valley defeated JSU in Greenwood on a buzzer-beater by Jordan Washington on Feb. 1 in the first meeting betwen the Tigers and Delta Devils this season.Â
The Tigers scored 34 points in the paint and outscored MVSU 48-30 in the second half.Â
The game was tied at 34 at halftime, but Valley shot just 34 percent in the second half. In comparison, the Tigers hit nearly 60 percent of its shots in the second half.Â
Kenneth Wachira also came off the bench to score 16 points for JSU.Â
The Delta Devils have two games remaining on its schedule -- Monday at Grambling State and March 8 at UAPB -- before the 2014 SWAC Basketball Tournament. The tournament is set for March 11-15 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.Â
