ITTA BENA, Miss. — The Mississippi Valley State University Department of Athletics has several reasons to celebrate as a host of student-athlete graduated at the Leflore County Civic Center.
At the 64
th Annual Commencement thirty-seven undergraduates and one graduate student-athlete received their degrees in various fields of study.
Track and Field's Micah Hill was conferred with the Master of Science degree in Environmental Health while soccer extraordinaire, Haley Hendrick graduated with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 4.0. Hendricks maintained a perfect GPA each semester during her matriculation at MVSU. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics.
Jo'Nathan Davis, a football athlete, dominated the classroom, finishing a double-major study major in Mathematics and Biology.
The educational system at Mississippi Valley is continuing to grow by leaps as the student-athletes accepted degrees in 14 academic programs: Biology (2); Business Administration (1); Communications (5); Computer Science (1); Criminal Justice (6); Early Childhood Education (1); Elementary Education (1); Environmental Health (1); Government and Politics (1); Health, Physical Education and Recreation (15); Mathematics/Biology (1); Social Science (1); Social Work (1) and Sociology (1).
The breakdown according to sports are as follows: Football (17); Women's Golf (4); Soccer (3); Baseball (2); Men's Golf (2); Men's Track & Field (2); Volleyball (2); Men's Basketball (1); Women's Basketball (1) and Women's Track & Field (1).
