EDINBURG, Texas - Mississippi Valley shot just 29.6 percent from the floor in a 68-55 defeat versus Texas-San Antonio during the Texas-Rio Grande Valley Battle on the Border Invitational.

LaKendra Bassett led the Devilettes (0-5) with 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. Sydney Floyd and Desiray Mosley each scored 10 points. Kristy Parker scored eight points on 3-of-17 shooting.

Four Roadrunners notched double-digits in scoring, with Tija Hawkins scoring 16 to pace UTSA. Crystal Chidomere put in a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. UTSA out-boarded MVSU 58-41.

Mississippi Valley State took an early 4-0 lead over the first three minutes of the contest, but UTSA responded with a 7-0 run and went into the second up 22-16. The Devilettes reclaimed the lead as Bassett keyed a 9-0 run to put Mississippi Valley up 25-22. The advantage was short-lived as UTSA managed to outscore MVSU 15-6 for the rest of the half.

Texas-San Antonio pushed its lead to double-digits in the third, and Mississippi Vally got no closer than eight.
