MEMPHIS – The Mississippi Valley State cross country team's season is officially underway, with their participation in the 2017 Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic.
The Twilight Classic is unique because it takes place at night as opposed to the early morning hours. Mississippi Valley's teams have worked hard since reporting back to campus.
On the men's side, Jaleel Turner finished first for the Delta Devils with a time of 23:26.84; teammate Timothy Misoy finished just behind him with a time of 23:28.58.
Brandon McCall, a familiar face for MVSU, recorded a time of 27:06.26, while Darius Fortune completed the race in 28:20.20. Joseph Mitchell (28:48.45) and Nicholas Alexander (32:24.12) rounding out the numbers for Mississippi Valley.
On the women's side, Scolasticah Kemei didn't miss a beat as she continued her pace in leading the Devilettes. Kemei finished in the top 30 runners with a time of 19:10.92.
Newcomers Alice Kimutai concluded the race in second for MVSU, with a time of 20:09.98 and 21:34.39 respectively. Autezia Sellers (21:40.74), Derica Pitters (21:53.96), Jala Allen (24:19.47), Fantasia Ard (25:06.91), Kenya Davis (25:26.79), ZaBasjia Price (27:08.64) and Jada Allen (27:41.73) rounded out the time for the Devilettes to record an 11
th place finish.
The next stop for the MVSU cross-country teams is the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival in Metairie, Louisiana.
