MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Mississippi Valley State University cross country program participated in its final tune up before October 24's SWAC Championships in Tallahassee, running the women's 6K and men's 8K on the Montevallo Cross Country Course.
The Delta Devils had a duo break personal-records as senior
Gabriel Crawford blazed the fastest path on the team for the third consecutive time, running a 30:06.7, and junior
Elijah Edney came in about 48 seconds behind at 30:54.3. The third finisher for the men from the Mississippi Delta was
Jacob Bell with a time of 31:59.5 while freshman
Jordan Robinson made his collegiate debut (40:58.1).
The Devilettes did not warrant a team score but also saw a pair of PRs fall via the second-place runner for Valley State,
Rickeyshia White (33:08.0), and third-place finisher
Chanelle Houston (34:51.9). The impressive performance on the day from either side was
Toni Carter, whose mark of 30:57.3 was a team-best and it came in her first career 6K race.
Valley will make its first ever trip to the Sunshine State for the SWAC Cross Country Championships on Monday morning, October 24 at Apalachee Regional Park in search of their first championship of any kind in five years (Women in 2017).
