Delta Devils to host Tigers of Jackson State

ITTA BENA, Miss. - The Delta Devils return home Saturday afternoon when they host in-state Southwestern Athletic Conference rival, Jackson State.

They will continue their four-game home stretch at the R.W. Harrison Complex when the Grambling State Tigers arrive Monday evening, with tip off set for 7:30 p.m.

Mississippi Valley looks to record their first win against the Tigers this weekend in an even better fashion than last season's overtime win (70-67).

The Delta Devils are coming off a tough road loss against the Prairie View Panthers, where they went into the half down 21, but the second half was all in favor of the Delta Devils as they contained the Panthers 45-40.

The aggressiveness, versatility, and tenacity that the Delta Devils showed the second half of the Prairie View game is what Jackson State's Coach Brent was insinuating Thursday when he said, "Valley is a dangerous team" during his weekly press conference.

Dante Scott and Jordan Evans lead the Delta Devils in scoring this season at 13.1 and 12.3 points per game respectively. Scott's scoring ability has him sitting in the conference's top 10 in that category. Evans is going into Saturday's matchup against Jackson State after posting 30-points at Prairie View.

This season's team is almost completely new to the conference, so Saturday will be an experience for them. As a result, the energy that will fill the arena should transfer onto the court creating a great game for our Delta Devils.

Both Evans and Scott need big nights to win against a Jackson State team that is number two in the conference (6-1), but more importantly a tunnel visioned team that is determined not to fall two games behind conference leader, University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Saturday's matchup is one you don't want to miss! Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.

Let's take a closer look at the opponent…
