QUEENS, N.Y. – The Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball program heads north to the bright lights of New York City where it will battle the St. John's Red Storm to kick off the 2021-22 campaign.

Scouting The St. John's (NY) Red Storm
Saint John's are projected to finish fourth in the Big East and tallied five points to be among those receiving votes in the Preseason AP Top 25 Poll.
The Johnnies will lean heavily on Preseason All-Big East First Teamer Julian Champagnie and All-Big East Second Team selection Posh Alexander.
Champagnie was tabbed a Preseason All-American by Athlon Sports and has been named to the Julius Erving Award, NABC Player of the Year, Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award watch lists after leading the conference in scoring at 19.8 points per game while tying for Big East Improved Player of the Year. The junior from Brooklyn, New York also fronted the league in free throw percentage (88.7%) to go along with ranking fourth in steals per contest (1.4), fifth in three-pointers (2.4), seventh in rebounds per game (7.4) and ninth in blocks a night (1.0).
Alexander became the fourth student-athlete in Big East history to win Defensive Player of the Year as a freshman last season, on his way to being named Conference Freshman of the Year while slotting in sixth nationally for steals per game (2.6).
