Mississippi Valley State Overview:
Valley State has been one of the better teams in the SWAC regarding both the free throw and three-point departments over the first three weeks, making an average of 14.2 freebies per game (2nd in SWAC) and knocking down 37.1% of its attempts from behind the arc (3rd in SWAC).
Mississippi Valley fans cannot talk about Delta Devils basketball right now without mentioning senior star guard
Terry Collins. Coming off a career-high 27-point performance versus North Alabama, he is among the national leaders free throws made with 27 (9th in NCAA) and a free-throw percentage of 96.4% (36th in NCAA), has played 36:51 minutes per game (20th in NCAA), and has scored 82 points (22nd in NCAA). On top of those numbers, he also slots top-five individually in the SWAC for points per game (16.4), rebounds (26), three-pointers a game (2.20), and total threes (11).
Danny Washington has been a thief for Coach Ivory's Devils, snatching eight steals, the fourth-highest mark in the conference.
Alvin Stredic is the squad's second-leading scorer and rebounder at 9.6 and 4.2, respectively, and has the best field-goal percentage among his teammates at 44.7%.
Scouting the Missouri Tigers:
After struggling in non-conference play a season ago where it went just 7-8 with losses to Kansas City and Liberty, the Tigers have taken care of business so far with an unblemished mark with wins over Southern Indiana, Penn, Lindenwood, and SIU-Edwardsville.
The Black and Gold have been impressive in all facets of the game with a turnover margin of 7.5, averaging 94 points and 21.5 assists per game, making more than half of their shots (52%) and pickpocketing 12.2 steals a night.
D'Moi Hodge has been the scoring threat for Mizzou with the seventh-highest average in the SEC (16.8).
Kobe Brown has been the most effective shooter after four contests, splashing 67.6% of his shots to rank 30th nationwide.
Tre Gomillion has been masterful with the basketball, keeping turnovers to a minimum while dishing out 14 assists as his assist-to-turnover ratio of seven is borderline top-10 among the entire NCAA.
