Â
Mississippi Valley State Overview:
Â
Valley State has been one of the better teams in the SWAC regarding both the free throw and three-point departments over the first three weeks, making an average of 13.8 freebies per game (2nd in SWAC) and knocking down 35.8% of its attempts from behind the arc (3rd in SWAC).
Â
Mississippi Valley fans cannot talk about Delta Devils basketball right now without mentioning senior star guard
Terry Collins. Coming off back-to-back career-high 27-point performances and being named SWAC Player of the Week, he is among the national leaders in free throws made with 29 (13th in NCAA) and a free-throw percentage of 93.5% (36th in NCAA), has played 36:29 minutes per game (24th in NCAA), and has scored 109 points (16th in NCAA). On top of those numbers, he also slots top-five individually in the SWAC for points per game (18.2), rebounds (31), three-pointers a game (2.67), and total threes (16).
Â
Danny Washington has been a thief for Coach Ivory's Devils, snatching nine steals, the fifth-highest mark in the conference.
Â
Alvin Stredic is the squad's second-leading scorer and rebounder at 9.5 and 4.3, respectively, and has the best field-goal percentage among his teammates at 45.5%.
Â
Scouting the Air Force Falcons:
USAFA has picked up a pair of victories in five games so far, taking down Delaware and USC Upstate while dropping contests to Bowling Green, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Portland.
Â
The Falcons jack up a bunch of threes, ranking third in the Mountain West with 8.6 makes per game, but they also defend the perimeter well with the third-lowest three-point percentage defense (28.1%) as well.
Â
The cadets are led by Jake Heidbreder, posting 15.6 points, 13 triples, and an 85.2% free throw percentage.
Â
Lucas Moerman is one of the better shot blockers in the MWC with six, both Rytis Petraitis and Corbin Green have notched double-doubles, Nikc Jackson fronts the rebounding department with 5.8 a night, and the duo of Camden Vander Zwaag plus Ethan Taylor are responsible for 27 assists between the pair.
