HATTIESBURG, MS - The Mississippi Valley State University outdoor track and field wrapped up their performances on the second day of the Southern Mississippi Open meet, today, April 27, 2024.
Kaylan Clayton delivered outstanding results, achieving a personal best and setting a new school record with a 5th place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 11.97. Kaylan also secured 6th place in the 200m dash with a time of 25.72.
Aaliyah Whyte clinched 1st place in shot put with a distance of 13.05m and an impressive 3rd place in discus with a distance of 39.09m.
Aniyah Thomas showcased her skills with a 4th place finish in discus throw with a distance of 36.39m and a 6th place finish in shot put with a distance of 10.47m. Lamya Brooks secured the 7th position in shot put with a distance of 8.25 m.
Joy Givens finished 9th in the 100m dash with a time of 12.54 and 7th in the 200m dash with a time of 26.57, while
Terreka Gibson secured the 10th position in the 200m dash with a time of 27.84. In the 1500m event, Janna Dauer demonstrated her endurance, finishing in 6th place with a time of 5:59.40.
On the men's side,
Jadarius Townes secured the 10th position in both shot put with a distance of 9.83m and discus throw with a distance of 34.79m.
Elijah Johnson showcased his talent with a 6th place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.90, achieving a personal best time.
Jordan Robinson achieved a 5th place finish in the 400m dash, also setting a personal best with a time of 50.18. Johnson achieved a personal best in the 100m dash as well with a time 10.97.

MVSU will travel to Baton Rouge, La., for the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships, set for May 2-4.
