MVSU Track & Field Had a Great Showing at SWAC Outdoor Championships

Prairie View, Texas – The Mississippi Valley State men & women track & field teams had a great outing at the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on this past weekend.
 
MVSU student-athlete Tiara DeRosa finished the weekend making the podium on two separate occasions. DeRosa took home the gold in both the shot-put and discus events. In the shot-put event, she led the competition with a mark of 14.29 meters which she made on her third attempt. During the discus event, on her fifth attempt she made a throw of 48.01 meters where she took over the top spot. For her outstanding accomplishments over the weekend, she was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer for the SWAC Outdoor Championships.
 
Alice Kimutai placed fifth in the 3000-meter Steeplechase Finals with a time of 13:10.71.
 
Freshman Chanelle Houston finished in sixth place in the 400-meter hurdle finals with a time of 1:06.61.
 
On the men's side, sophomore Brian Brown took fifth place in the 100-meter finals with a time of 10.46. Brown also placed fifth in the 200-meter final with a time of 21.27.
 
Freshman Jacob Bell competed in the 400-meter hurdle competition and finished in fourth place with a time of 54.28.
 
Jamarius Shaw tallied a total of 5,304 points in the Decathlon finals where he finished in fourth place.
