PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Next on this year's countdown of Mississippi Valley State's ten most memorable wins of the 2021-22 athletic calendar is win number ten on the list as men's basketball invaded the "Baby Dome" and narrowly escaped with an 84-82 win in overtime to defeat the Panthers for the first time since 2017.
The Delta Devils had to fight both the home crowd and an up-hill momentum battle in overtime when PVAMU's D'Rell Roberts had his halfcourt prayer answered at the horn to send the game into extras.
The 84 points scored by the men from The Delta was the third-highest output of the regular season while it benefited from a foul-happy Panther squad that sent Valley to the line 33 times, making a season-best 26 (78.8%).
Robert Carpenter came within one free throw of being the second player since 2016-17 to make ten-plus from the charity stripe without missing, going 10-for-11 (90.9%) on top of a game-best 26 points and three steals (season-best). Carpenter also fronted the team with seven boards and had multiple assists for only the second time (2), making 61.5% (8-of-13) of his field goal attempts.
Devin Gordon put together a solid line of 13 points, six rebounds, a steal, and an assist while
Elijah Davis contributed 11 points plus a team-high four dimes.
