BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Next on this year's countdown of Mississippi Valley State's 15 most memorable individual moments of the 2021-22 athletic calendar is moment number 12 as senior Kiion Smith concluded his Valley State career by tossing a personal record distance of 48.26m to place third in the discus throw at the SWAC Outdoor Championships.
 
Smith scored for the men's side in all three of his events, notching third in the discus, fourth for the hammer throw (44.48m), and eighth during the shot put (13.70m).
 
Hailing from nearby Rolling Fork, Mississippi, his career-best marks while residing in the Mississippi Delta were 48.26m in the discus (5/7/22), 14.19m in the shot put (2/18/22), 15.48m in the weight throw (2/18/22), 43.41m in the hammer toss (5/8/21), and 24.61m in the javelin (4/6/19).
