ITTA BENA, Miss. – Next on this year's countdown of Mississippi Valley State's ten most memorable wins of the 2021-22 athletic calendar is win number two on the list as baseball provided a flair for the dramatic in the SWAC opening series, taking the final two games by identical 8-7 scores.

Rust College transfer Maury Weaver played the role of hero in game one with a bases loaded RBI single back up the middle to set off the first celebration while being the game-winning run in the nightcap after tying the contest with a two-run triple during the final frame. On the afternoon, Weaver went 3-for-8 (.375), going for the cycle minus the home run as he logged three ribbies, scored twice, and walked once.

Angel Perez showed resiliency as he stepped to the plate for the final at-bat of game two having gone 0-for-4 in the opener, chopping a grounder to second base slowly enough for Weaver to slide under the tag.

Chris Soeder had a stat line that he probably will never see again; two hit-by-pitches, two walks, two runs scored, one hit, and one RBI to reach base five separate times.

Ty Washington also recorded a unique doubleheader showing of a triple, sacrifice fly, four runs batted in, and two runs scored with three of his four runs produced coming from his bases clearing three-bagger.

Josh Wilson tallied his first multi-RBI game of his career with a pair in game two while the trio of Narvin Booker, Davon Mims, and Eric Johnson II combined for a .412 batting average (7-of-17), five runs scored, and two steals.

On the bump, Iankel Santos had a career day with a personal-high three innings pitched and two strikeouts in his third career appearance to earn his first pitching victory.

Isaiah Valenzuela had arguably his best start of 2022, tossing a season-best six frames with five punchouts and just one walk surrendered.

Hunter Stallings got the ball to begin the second ballgame, registering a quality start of five innings and three earned runs to go along with six Ks.
