PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Next on this year's countdown of Mississippi Valley State's 15 most memorable individual moments of the 2021-22 athletic calendar is moment number five as redshirt sophomore
Caleb Johnson was unleashed on an unsuspecting Prairie View defense that was unable to contain the bruising back en route to an upset victory.
The five-foot-nine, 205-pound bowling ball was borderline unstoppable on the day, exploding for a career-high 193 rushing yards (4.8 ypc) over 40 carries and his third career multi-touchdown outing.
The 2022 Preseason All-SWAC First Team selection was the only ballcarrier in the conference to top 1,000 yards on the ground (1,004) to finish 14th nationally while racking up an average of 91.3 yards a contest (18th in FCS) and eight scores (47th in FCS).
Honors and accolades have been pouring in for the Memphis man ever since as he has been named a C Spire Conerly Trophy Finalist, All-SWAC Second Teamer, and HERO Sports FCS Sophomore All-American for his work in the fall of 2021.
If Johnson can rack up 1,265 rushing yards in 2022, he would become the program's all-time rushing leader over Corey Holmes (2,851 from 1982-85) as he enters the year sitting on 1,587.
